Automobiles in German City Found Marked with Swastikas in Blood, Police Report

Incident location Affected vehicle Area Police
Authorities mentioned they were contacted by a man who found a automobile in Hanau smeared with reddish liquid

Around 50 automobiles have been covered with what seems to be human blood in the German town of Hanau close to Frankfurt, according to police.

Automobiles, walls and postboxes were vandalized, in some cases with swastikas, they announced in a release.

Law enforcement say they were contacted in the late hours on Wednesday evening, when a resident discovered that a vehicle in the Lamboy district of Hanau had been covered with a reddish liquid.

The liquid had been placed in the pattern of a swastika, they stated.

Officers then found many other marked cars and building exteriors in the surrounding area.

These symbols are illegal in Germany under regulations prohibiting the visible presentation of Nazi-era symbols.

Law enforcement say initial examinations suggest the fluid was likely blood from a person.

"At present there remains no indication as to its source; investigators are not yet aware of any physical harm in connection with the incident," they commented.

Municipal representatives said they were working "to resolve the mystery" and have requested to the public for details.

A high-ranking official stated the vandalism rendered him speechless and needed to be solved rapidly.

"This act strikes at the very heart of Hanau and reopens the wounds of the right-wing violent incident half a decade ago," he wrote on a platform, mentioning the killing of nine people by a gunman targeting individuals of foreign heritage in five years prior.
