Christopher Nolan's legendary action saga, The Odyssey, stands as a movie audiences have been anticipating since its announcement. It firmly sits as one of the most awaited motion pictures coming next year. As a pre-Christmas treat, a trailer has finally arrived, even if it's compromised by YouTube's poor compression—perhaps explaining why Nolan initially kept the trailer solely for theatrical audiences.
The Initial Look at the Legendary Cast
This first look showcases Matt Damon in the role of the king of Ithaca. Audiences are introduced to Tom Holland as Telemachus and Anne Hathaway as Penelope. In a poignant moment, Penelope asks her husband to vow he will return, only for him to look up and question what happens if he cannot. The trailer also offers a brief, shadowy glimpse at Polyphemus the Cyclops, whose flock are taken by the hero and his men during their arduous journey.
Based upon a foundational pillar of Western literature, The Odyssey follows the epic journey undertaken by the famed ruler. Following his victory at Troy, as told within the companion epic, the king faces an extended and hazardous road home.

Along his path, Odysseus confronts numerous obstacles and mythical beings. These include the witch-goddess Circe, known for turning humans into pigs, as well as the treacherous Sirens. Regardless of these ordeals, his sworn oath is to do whatever it takes to reunite with Penelope and Telemachus on his home island.
This film's ensemble boasts an impressive lineup. Joining Damon, Holland, and Hathaway are Charlize Theron portraying the shrewd goddess, alongside Zendaya, Lupita Nyong'o, Robert Pattinson, Elliot Page, and Jon Bernthal.
A Tale of Many Adaptations
The classic poem has inspired numerous adaptations throughout history. Examples include contemporary versions to a 1999 ballet. It has even been adapted into a musical titled Epic: The Musical, presented as a multi-part album series.
